HMS Inner Axle Tube Seal for 2⅝" ID Axle Tubes
Help keep gear oil in the rear end housing with the Hammond Motorsports inner axle tube seal. It uses three inner lip seals to seal against the axle and three high-temperature outer O-rings to seal against the tube. The three lip seals help maintain the seal as the axle flexes.
Check fit before ordering:
- Fits an axle tube with a 2⅝" inside diameter, typically a 3" outside-diameter tube with a 3/16" wall.
- Works with an axle measuring ⅞" (.875") or larger at the sealing surface.
- Intended for Ford 9" rear end housings with the specified tube size. It can also be used in the quick-change installation described below.
- Measure the inside diameter of your axle tube to confirm fit. A standard 12 oz beverage can is a quick reference: it should just fit inside the tube.
- Sold individually: one inner axle tube seal. Order two if you’re installing a seal on both sides of the rear end.
Installation tips:
- Pack the inner lip seals with wheel-bearing grease.
- Apply gray RTV between the three outer O-rings when installing the seal in the axle tube.
- In a Ford 9" housing, position the seal deep enough that the axle splines will not pass through the lip seals when you pull the axle to remove the center section.
- For a quick-change rear end, the seal can be installed between the bolts that attach the axle tube to the side bell. This allows the spool seals to be removed so oil can reach the axle and spool. If you use gun-drilled axles, plug the axles to prevent oil from running through them.
See the videos on this page for tube measuring and installation tips. Replacement O-rings are also available.
