CMD Extreme Pressure Lube #3 – High PSI Anti-Scoring Lubricant

CMD Extreme Pressure Lube #3 is a high-pressure anti-scoring lubricant designed to maintain a lubricating film where ordinary lubricants can break down under extreme pressure.

Recommended Racing Applications

Especially recommended for:

  • Transmission input shaft to drive flange
  • Quick-change axle splines to drive plates
  • Quick-change axle splines to spool
  • Titanium bolt and nut threads to help reduce galling and seizing
  • Splines, shafts, threads, and other high-load metal-to-metal contact areas

For race car maintenance, CMD Lube #3 is especially important anywhere splined components must slide together and later come apart without scoring, galling, or seizing.

Why Use an Extreme Pressure Lubricant?

Under heavy loads, conventional lubricants can lose their protective lubricating film, allowing metal-to-metal contact. This can lead to scoring, increased friction, heat, wear, and component damage.

CMD anti-scoring lubricants are formulated specifically for extreme-pressure applications. According to CMD, while commonly used lubricants may provide a lubricating film at pressures ranging from approximately 500 to 10,000 PSI, CMD Extreme Pressure Lubricants are regularly used at pressures of approximately 40,000–50,000 PSI.

Apply a light coating of CMD Extreme Pressure Lube #3 to the input shaft where it engages the drive flange and to quick-change axle splines where they engage the drive plate or spool.

We also recommend using an appropriate thread lubricant when installing titanium racing hardware because titanium threads can gall or seize when assembled dry.
