Before installing your new control arm, take a few minutes to inspect your suspension. A quick inspection can prevent alignment issues and save time at the racetrack.
- Check bushing alignment using the Hammond Motorsports Chassis Checker (Part # HMS-10500X24). Properly aligned bushings help ensure smooth suspension travel and consistent chassis setup.
- Check the control arm for bends. Place the control arm on a flat surface and apply light pressure between the spring pocket and the bushing area. Measure from the flat surface to the outer lip near the ball joint and record the measurement. Comparing this measurement after racing or contact makes it easy to detect a bent control arm.
- Inspect for a bent control arm bolt. After installation, paint a straight reference line from the crossmember onto the control arm bolt head. If the painted line moves because the bolt rotates, the bolt has likely bent and should be replaced.
